Sometimes, His Answer is to Wait.

It’s difficult to wait on God, when we are closely involved in the outcome, but that is what we are supposed to do. The bible promises us in Isaiah 40:31,  31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

So, I’ve often wondered about what happens to those who don’t wait on God. Do they renew their strength? More likely, people who take matters into their own hands, instead of waiting for God to go before them and clear the way, suffer unnecessarily because they refuse to follow God’s divine order for their lives.

How can they rise above the storms of life, when they are so focused on the storm?

Instead, they drag through their day, desperately intent on carrying the burdens that were not meant for them to carry. People who haven’t learned to trust in the Lord with their cares, are destined to live their lives overwhelmed and defeated.

It’s unfortunate, really, when you think about how some people risk missing out on having peace of mind, just so they can maintain the control over their circumstances, instead of trusting God to work all things out for their good.

It’s good to wait on the Lord. There are benefits to following his will, because he has already gone before us to make the way.

We Overcome; We Trust God; We Move Onward

Sometimes you have to go, when you don’t feel like going, speak when you don’t feel like speaking; pray, when you don’t feel like praying; sing when you don’t feel like singing; trust, when you don’t see how it could ever work out; encourage yourself, when there’s no one else who is willing to do it, hold your head high, when you feel more like crumpling in sorrowful weeping; smile, while you are hiding the emotional upheaval in your life.

Sometimes everyone else reaps the benefits of prayer. Stay encouraged, because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever; keep moving forward, your answers are on their way.  We can’t afford to let down our guard, and become vulnerable to the attacks of Satan. His time is short, and the only power he has, is the power given to him by God, so he can’t overtake us unless God allows it for our good, so I choose to move onward.

Onward

I will follow where he leads me,

through the valleys and the hills

I will trust Him for there’s no other

who can all my needs fulfill

In sickness and in health

he’s my strength and my song,

In life’s battles, He’s my shield;

In my weakness, He is strong.

Oh, when all the world’s against me,

my ideas and my plans

I know that he’ll lead me through it, and

Teach me how to stand.

Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name

At all Times, I Will Bless the Lord.

“He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust:
his truth shall be thy shield and buckler”(Psalm 91:4).
Under His Wings

Being independent has its place in our lives, but sometimes the Lord invites us to come into his arms and under his wings for protection. Too often we put up a brave front and fight a spiritual battle alone. It seems, that when we are the most vulnerable in our spiritual walk, the devil taunts us when we cry late at night, and tells us that no one sees our anguish, or even cares about our sorrow.
“Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee; yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast” (Psalm 57:1).
“I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.” Psalm 61:4).
We Cry
We cry when we can’t put into words the grief of loneliness.
We mourn for the child we may never have, the spouse long departed,
the ambition halted by circumstances beyond our control;
the lost opportunities in our life;
the paralyzing fear of failure that keeps us bound; and unable to do anything for God.
We cry when all is going well for others; then feel guilty that we want them to fail—
The ones who don’t know Him; and
What about the tears that we didn’t shed?
What about the prayers we should have prayed, but delayed;
The invitations we should have mailed, but didn’t;
the apathy and rejection that we plunged into?
We wonder how the Devil slipped into our thoughts.
We cry while all the time the Lord is waiting for us to reach for him,
and allow him to nurture us just because we don’t understand, why.
He wants us to allow Him to wash away the past regrets; wipe away our tears.
Are you waiting for God to do something in your life?
You can reach Him, today.
He desires to gather you under his wings into a place of safety and warmth.
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!” Luke 13:34

Do You Have the Faith to Believe?

cropped-cropped-cropped-web-page-pic-lattereign.jpg

While walking in my garden, I thought about having the faith to believe God. We all have circumstances in our lives that we need the Lord to intervene in, and some of those have become a part of us. We are so used to accepting that a situation is what it is, and we may not even pray about it any more, because we have given up on the situation changing. It could go on for years, and before we recognize it, we’ve stop praying about it.

If I had to answer the question about having enough faith, I would probably say, sometimes, I think I have enough faith to believe God, if the answer is for someone else’s healing, or other prayer request, but not near enough faith to believe God for my own healing. We are human, after all. I have gotten so comfortable where I am at in Christ, that change becomes unsettling. As a result, nothing changes.

With all of my shortcomings, it’s a wonder that an omnipotent God would invest his time in me, but the good news is, that he did. With all of my flaws, he still chose to invest in my salvation. You see, he already knows the plans that he has for me, and that is for me to prosper, be in good health, and have an expected end. There isn’t even a question of whether God would desire to take on the challenge of ensuring my salvation and helping me to reach my full potential in him. The Lord has shown us over and over again that we do matter. Why not believe? Has the Lord ever given us a reason to doubt his existence, love, or concern for us, his treasure?

But, still, there is that voice that sings doubt into our spirits, when we can’t explain a turn of events. It’s easier to sing along than it is to risk being silent and actually, allowing the Lord to work out our circumstances in due season. We sometimes get in our own way of the answered prayer, because God doesn’t operate under a cloud of fear and disbelief. It is up to us to exercise our faith to believe God. We can do no less, and expect to receive our answered petitions.

Yet, even when we don’t have enough faith to believe, we are all given a measure of faith; and with God, that is enough.

Do you have the faith to believe?

“Death, Where is Thy Sting?”

Picture 175

In Memory of all the saints who have made it home.

My time you may think has ended and the enemy won;

But in Jesus name, not so, my life has just begun.

In death, I have gained life everlasting; there is no defeat in me

The final battle for my soul has been fought; Jesus has won the victory.

When sorrow passes, then, you will sing:

Glory, Hallelujah to Christ the King!

He maketh my bones to rejoice at last;

My worship, my praise, my longing for a future, now past.

Glory, Hallelujah, Omnipotent King;

The only wise potentate that’s why I can sing.

For he has redeemed me; be bought me with his blood;

He has kept me through the fire, sickness and flood.

When I was rejected by common man;

He offered me love by extending his hand

To even me, who once rejected the love he showed;

By going on my own; carrying my own heavy load.

Of burdens and trials all unresolved;

Still he waited for me to give him my all.

When I finally lifted up my hands in sweet surrender

He took the weight of my past and gave me peace so tender.

Jesus–He is yesterday, today, forever the same.

Yesterday, he loved us, and today, his love hasn’t changed.

Tomorrow, he will love us; our souls he has claimed.

Repent and be baptized in Jesus’ Name–

It’s the only way to experience New Birth

He promises the Gift of the Holy Ghost and his power

if you will yield to his will and his way this very hour.

then, you will have a name above all others you wear,

Without it, you can’t come to this place, prepared.

For only those who have the mark of his blood

On their soul have invitation there.

This gospel works will you seek him today?

He waits to give you a new life of prayer.

Great is the Mystery

The Art of Waiting

Untitled 0 00 50-20Untitled 0 00 00-01

Several years back we went to the Kansas Underground Salt Museum. The pictures above show an IBM System 38 Computer, and it’s storage capacity and the cost. Just one mistake cost employees three months to re-scan paper original documents. After studying these pictures, I realize that we have certainly come a long way in technology.

It used to be that we didn’t mind waiting for a home cooked meal, or a handcrafted gift, because we knew that time was invested in each act of kindness that we usually took for granted when we were younger. Then, fast food made it’s debut, and we became an impatient society unable to wait for more than sixty seconds for our order to be filled, (usually the only way for this to happen was if the food had been cooked earlier, and kept warm under a light. As a consequence, the food quality was often compromised.)

We have grown used to accepting second best in everything that we have and desire. A cry that I often hear is, “I might as well accept this, because that’s just the way it is, and there’s nothing that I can do about it.”  Maybe, it’s time for us to not accept less than God’s best for our lives. Why treasure the rags we have, when the Lord desires to bless us with riches? Riches take many forms; you can be rich in love, acceptance, hope, the fruits of the spirit, friends, family, and the list goes on, but do we really anticipate that God would consider blessing us?

Maybe, you are more demanding of God’s blessings. You expect God to fulfill your prayer order, immediately, when the Lord expects us to wait. If you planted an apple seed, it would be ludicrous to expect an apple tree to pop up out of the ground, instantaneously, like the beanstalk in the fairy tale, “Jack and the Beanstalk;” but, we hate waiting for answers to prayer. The more I live for God, the more I have learned that the time of waiting is a precious time that we can build a relationship with Jesus Christ. Are we so demanding and inconsiderate that we forget to talk to God, when all he wants is to hear our voice? If we ever ignored someone, it wouldn’t take too long before they would get concerned that we were angry with them.

When you are in a season of waiting, remember that obtaining God’s best, requires being ready to receive it, and that doesn’t happen unless we perfect the art of waiting for God’s perfect timing to fulfill his purpose in our lives.  There’s an Art to Waiting

Winter’s Past–A Time for Growth

There’s something about this time of year after a long difficult winter season, that gives us hope that we can move forward. In the past week, or so, we have been able to get outside, and that in itself is a major blessing, after being confined to extra blankets all winter.

We managed to take it all in stride, and after much prayer that the winter would end, it happened. It is more than likely that we will have forgotten how challenging winter was on us, within the next few weeks of warm weather.

We are supposed to be thankful for everything that happens to us, both the good and the not so good, and when the stormy seasons occur in our lives, we can have peace. Does that mean that our circumstances will change? Not always, because God knows where he is leading us, and even enduring the more hurtful times in our lives is part of the process to get us to where the Lord would have us to be.

There is hope beyond our present circumstances; and springtime will always occur after the dead of winter. We may need to clear away some things from our lives, but rest assured, there is new life pushing up through the soil.

God has not forgotten us, he promises that he will never leave us or forsake us. The unfruitful things in our lives will be cleared away so that newness can spring forth and bring us hope and joy.

It’s time to clear away all obstacles, that  may have crept into our lives, and renew our vision for spiritual growth.

Courageous and Consistent Faith

Separate by Choice

No one is forcing me to live for God in the spirit of truth and holiness. I made a free will choice to do so. I live to worship an Almighty God who loves me, unconditionally. While he does chastise me when I wander away from his presence, it is not for my detriment, it is to encourage me to stay behind his glory shield and be protected. In the process of separating myself from the things of the world, I can receive his forgiveness as he gently strengthens me. When I am weak, he is strong for me; when the world tries to attack everything that I believe, he carries me until I can stand on my own, and I am determined in my heart to fulfill his purpose for my life.

The world tries to contain God in a box, so that he can be used on demand: don’t have enough money for more tech gadgets—open the box and pray for God to give it; need a new car; just open the box and ask; the list goes on and on—isn’t that how it’s supposed to work? Prayer. Ask, seek, knock?

Sure, on occasion we may have this approach with God, but it’s not the best way to build a relationship with the King of kings, and the Lord of lords. If all you ever did was tirelessly, seek more stuff from God or people for that matter; soon they would grow weary of your constant begging for more, instead of being content with the things that the Lord has placed in your hands.

What will you do with the talents that he has given to you? Bury them in the sand? Put them at the back of your list of priorities to develop later? Forget that you even had them in the first place? Or, will you treasure the things that were bought with his very life at Calvary?

It’s not wise to take the gifts that the Lord has blessed us with, lightly. He doesn’t have to give us anything, because we surely have done nothing to deserve his abundant grace and mercy. It’s time to consider the treasures that he has given to us without expectation of anything in return.

It’s Time to Spring Forward…

Every year when we go to Daylight savings time, I get confused. Am I gaining an hour of rest, or am I losing an hour of rest. If it was 8:00 before the time change, then you add one hour to that to get the correct time. So, the way I see it, when we try to have more light in our day, it comes with a great price: we lose an hour of sleep.

Have we in all the years that Daylight Savings time has existed, ever really lost or gained an hour? No, there are still twenty-four hours in each day. What has changed is how we allocate that time. Not all areas observe Daylight Savings time which was first introduced during war time, to give people more hours of light to help the war effort.

It worked. Now, I am confused with time all year long.

Just when I adjust to the old routines of daily living, the time changes, and I have to readjust to accommodate the new extended hour of light. Granted, I am so ready for the more light that Spring brings, because it makes me happy to be able to open up the house and breathe fresh air. But if you think on it for a while, nothing has really changed: there are still twenty four hours in a day.

More light results in a better attitude.

Jesus Christ is the light of the world. When he comes on the scene, darkness leaves. Our understanding is heightened, as we turn towards his brilliance. Light brings healing, joy, and laughter. It brings a mindset of taking care of overdue projects around the house: such as, cleaning the windows, raking up pine straw, bringing order to the homes we live in. All of those tasks that maybe winter has kept you from tackling, you are ready to tackle. It only takes light.

Spiritually, have we allowed the time changes to impact what we can and can not be involved in?

Do we still have a passion for ministry, even if it requires leaving an hour earlier to pick up children on a bus ministry, or sacrificing our only day off from work, to go on outreach?

And, what about our commitment to show up to the house of God when the doors are open? Do we even give our absence a second thought, or, are we so used to skipping out when other things distract us away? Have we become desensitized to the voice of the Holy Spirit, when he encourages us to make good choices?

It is definitely time for a change. It’s time to Spring Forward and do the will of God.

Remember the Vision

haphazard fixturesIt’s been a while since I took the time to renew the vision of God’s promises being fulfilled in my life. I confess; I have a tendency to allow other trivial details to crowd out my direct line to God’s will and purpose for my life. I am convinced that it is part of an evil conspiracy to distract me from what is truly important. For example, I can’t walk past a framed picture on a wall, anyone’s wall, if it’s not straight. I will straighten it, or it will capture all of my attention to the point that I am not able to concentrate on anything, but the lopsided picture.

My worst nightmares are ill-placed  receptacles in any building. Sometimes, if there are many lined up along a wall that are not parallel–one may be at a slight angle, another may be higher, or two inches closer to the last one, but uneven–it drives me to distraction to think that I’m living in a Dr. Seuss book layout. You would think, well, if they work, what’s the big deal?

Indeed, what is the big deal? Does it really matter, if I have everything placed neatly on the wall? So what, if we paid money to hire a contractor to install the receptacles. Why shouldn’t we expect everything to be as we want it? How will this change my quality of life, if the receptacles are haphazard on the wall?

I know that in the moment when I look at that wall, all I can see are the flaws; when what I should be focusing on is if they actually work. It’s taken me a long time, to look beyond the receptacles, and see the potential that each one holds independently. There is power in the receptacles that we can connect to, if we learn to look beyond just a casual glance.

In our lifetime, we will encounter many people who are still young in their walk with God, who may not have fully reached their potential in Christ, yet, it’s time to see beyond where they are, and get a vision of where the Lord is leading them. Eventually, they will discover that even though they may feel haphazardly placed on the wall, God knows their usefulness to fulfill his plan and purpose for their lives. It only takes time to trust, and allow God to shape the receptacles of his power. Eventually, they will realize that they have power to shine God’s light of love in a sin-cursed world, and even haphazardly placed receptacles can be used to fulfill God’s purpose.

I’m so blessed that the Lord didn’t discard this most haphazard receptacle, myself, because he has helped me to realize that even the ones rejected by the world, can produce light, and it’s time to remember the vision.
