Isn’t it Time to Open the Door?

 door knock image

“I know thy works, behold I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it” (Revelation 3:8). “Behold I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him and he with me” (Revelation 3:20).

Note that in Revelation 3:8 the door is open and by verse 20 the Lord stands at a door and knocks. He desires that we open the door.

We must have an open heart to receive the provision and build a relationship with God. He is always at the door no matter whether we choose to let him in or refuse to be in his presence. Being in God’s presence requires us to be committed to love, repentance, and worship and although the Lord will never leave us nor forsake us it is our responsibility to open the door and allow the Lord to sup with us. He longs to reach into the depths of our Spirit and shine his light.

Before a door can be opened it’s required that we turn the doorknob. In our walk with God, we are required to repent and turn our lives around as the Lord examines our heart with his spotlight. He sees the dark corners and knows that no matter how deeply he must search that if enough of his light enters into your room it will be illuminated. Not everything revealed by his light will be beautiful and the ugliness of sin must be purged before we can truly have the door opened wide.

It is required that when we allow God to open the door that we must be willing to go through it and step out in faith to believe and accept the unconditional love that the Lord wants to show to us. If we keep ourselves hidden in the dark, nothing will change. We will be in the dark along with our bitter spirit, hopeless ambitions and empty dreams. Why do people continue to wallow in the dark room of their spirit when the Lord is standing at the door knocking? If you are open to God, your liberty is only one door knob turn away and the door can only be opened from the inside of your heart.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne” (Revelation 3:20-21).

The doors that we choose to open will hold the victories

that the Lord will refuse to withhold.

“Who is This King of Glory?”

who is the king of glory?

The Lord is strong and mighty in battle.

“Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle” (Psalm 24:7-8).

No other name but Jesus will ever satisfy,

No other name will cleanse your soul,

No other name will be your everything or all your needs supply.

Your blessings; more abundantly, will outshine the sun,

your fervent flame will come from within.

It is not our good that we have done, but the Lord who will ignite us.

To be a witness requires no degrees, no prestige, no fortune, or fame.

All it takes is a soul willing to go—to love people and call on his name.

Now, I know that the times are suspect

meeting strangers can be something to fear,

but when people see you—let them see Jesus in you

let the light of his glory, shine through.

No matter where you are, hold your head high,

You have been chosen to carry his Name.

Through the course of this life, through turmoil and strife

You have a valuable weapon in hand:

The Word of the Lord—a two-edged sword,

The Promise given to unworthy man.

Never be too busy to take time to pray

For we breathe each breath of life—today.

We drink from the fountain of living water;

fill our cup with love, joy, and peace,

and put our faith in the Almighty God.

We have confidence in his unchanging word.

“Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts,

he is the King of glory. Selah” (Psalm 24:10).

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”

And to think, our debt has already been paid.

There is Hope in the Anointing

Sometimes all we do have to hold on to is our hope in Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4 King James Version (KJV)

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

11 For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;

14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The Art of Waiting

“Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great king.” (Psalm 48:1-3).

If you are interested in working in any ministry, there are seven steps that you must take to make it successful:

1.Pray.

Don’t forget to pray for the Lord’s direction and anointing, without it, anything you do will not last or be effective. Before you move, bend your knees in fervent prayer and find out what the Lord has to say to you.

2. Know your limitations.

Greater, faster, more modern, or the “bigger barns syndrome” will not help you to do the work at hand. Be content with the tools that the Lord has already provided for you to use. Use your talents as they are and develop them: Let your ministry outgrow your equipment, then, you can make wise decisions about upgrades.

3. Commit to the calling that God has placed on your life.

If it is truly God doing the calling, no obstacle will stop you from moving forward in Jesus Name. Stay in the word and stand on his promise and direction.

4. Stay focused on your goals.

Let God arise and his enemies be scattered in your life. When the Lord directs you, listen to what he tells you to do, and then, do it. It is easy to daydream about being famous; it takes dedication to continue even when it looks like you are alone in the walk.

5. Be Flexible.

Sometimes God’s will changes for our lives, and with that so does his directions. It may not always be the smoothest path that we are called to walk, but the end result will be God’s perfect will.

6. Ask for Help.

This is probably one of the hardest steps to follow. It is much easier to do things on our own when we get ideas burning inside. Knowing when to allow others to help us in ministry is a God-given talent in itself and one to be nurtured. Even in the first church, people were appointed to help.

7. Always obtain pastor’s approval before moving forward with a ministry.

Our pastor is the spiritual leader of the church. Get behind the leadership of this church, wait on God to unfold his plan for your life, spend less time fretting and worrying about where you are to work in the kingdom; and spend more time doing the will of God as he leads, and you will produce fruit that will remain. Be faithful and God will help you. “Without a vision, the people perish.”

We Don’t Want to Hear, “Wait“.

Holding on to Hope

No matter what happens around us every day in the world, there is one thing that no man can take from us: our joy. That is not to say that situations will not happen in our lives to make us question whether God is even listening to our cries, but joy doesn’t come from material possessions, or even our health.

Joy can be found in the presence of Jehovah. The bible says that in the presence of  the Lord there is fullness of joy, so if I want to find joy, then the only way I’ll find it is in the presence of the Lord.
If you are weary from the good fight of faith, get in the presence of the Lord, because the joy of the Lord is your strength.
Have you lost your direction because of so many obstacles in your path; he will show you the way, because he is the way, the truth and the life.
Are you fearful of what the future holds? Realize who holds your future. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).
It was never promised that our lives would be easy when we started following Jesus Christ; he did promise to never leave us or forsake us.
Hold on, Child of God. We have our hope in Jesus Christ. He will never fail.
Isn’t it time to worship the Lord, unconditionally–not because we need things from him–he already knows what we have need of–but because he is God?When we seek his face, we will find that his desire is towards us and that nothing will be withheld from us, but even if he never gives me another thing, I am beyond blessed.

Declaration of Independence

Independence. For some it means that they don’t have to follow the rules anymore because they are old enough to justify breaking them.

For all of my adult life, I have followed the grammar rules, such as, never start your sentence with “And.” And, to that I say, it’s one that I rarely break, unless I can find a good reason to break it. The English language still intrigues me. While I try to behave in the grammar department, the writer in me cries out to make my rules up as I go along.

Punctuation,–commas, and semicolons, are safe when I use “poetic license, which is a fancy way to say that I will write it the way that I want it to appear and not worry about it so much. Seriously, when I first started college and was deciding on a major, I really did choose creative writing because I knew that  if I wrote poetry, I wouldn’t need to worry so much about punctuation.

I was so wrong about the connection between grammar and poetry. You need to decide to follow the rules, because no matter how far you try to run away from them, they are everywhere for a reason, to help us to be effective without delays.

We celebrated our nation’s Independence Day on July 4, and it’s time that Christians everywhere realize that we are free because of Jesus Christ. The wages of sin is death, but Jesus paid the price for our sins, and we can declare his name on the rooftops. There is no other name under heaven whereby we can be saved.

Here are the rules we live by as Christians:

Welcome to My Garden

web page pic Lattereign

Sometimes finding peace, just requires taking a walk in the back yard as I did today. The water pump may seem like a rusty old piece of metal to some, but for our family it represents generations of hard working people, who knew what it was to have a strong work ethic, and passed it down to our generation. A birdbath is dressed with hostas at the base, a split railed fence is lined with brick. The plum tree holds hanging baskets, roses are at the base of the pump, and on the patio. Nandina, and a eucalyptus tree stump with bird feeders are beside the crepe myrtle trees and mimosa trees, home to all manner of birds who are making their sojourn to the south, a place where squirrels sneak the bird feed whenever they can, and the rabbits play.  Welcome to my garden.

How Do You Define Freedom?

Freedom is:

  • taking first steps and realizing that a whole new world has opened up to discover.
  • having seeds to plant in the soil that you have tended.
  • being able to supply the basic needs for your family with dignity.
  • feeling safe. (The world is not as safe as it used to be, but has it really changed that much? Basically, people have not changed; we are God’s creation and perfected through him every time we overcome circumstances.)

What is the cost of freedom?

Today it’s easy for me to sit here and reap the benefits of freedom. But, no matter how liberated I feel, the cost was greater for the ones who shed their blood that I might enjoy it. They are the true heroes who were willing to die for our right to live free.

We all have to decide if we are going to live for God or not: do I fight for what I know is right, or do I hide out and give up? I am thankful that Jesus Christ didn’t give up until he had secured our freedom from sin. If you are seeking happiness and find that you’ve tried everything to fulfill the void in your life and you are still lost, seek, the one who gave his life so that we could live more abundantly.

When you decide to be truly free, you can experience the joy that only comes through Jesus Christ. Freedom to live: without the fear of tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. Nothing can harm us because he promises to never forsake us. So, focus on living free, today. The Lord has everything under his dominion and power, and he loves you.

Trust God;  It’s Worth the Wait.

Don’t get Too Caught up in Life, to Live Life.

One of my favorite memories from early childhood was catching lightning bugs in the back yard. It seemed that we used to spend more time outside than in, during the summer months: not because we were banished from the house, but because we had amazing fun just being outside playing. We were taught to use our imagination.

Who ever thought that taking sticks, bottle caps, pebbles, broken glass, and dirt could be the foundation for entire cities!

Our minds were engaged in constructing elaborate buildings: broken glass became our stained glass windows of the church; gravel defined our parking lots, and leaves and twigs with bits of pine straw entwined fashioned our roof, jar lids made great ponds, and  breaking off small limbs created massive trees for our park.  We made furniture from bottle caps, and this all went on for hours until mom called us in to supper.

The total cost for this adventure? time.

Fast forward to, today. Well, I’ll let you think on that one for a while. When was the last time that you were engaged in using your imagination instead of depending on technology to tell you how to think or feel?

This week’s Lattereign reminds us not to get too caught up in life to really live life.

Remembering Daddy: 7 Life Lessons He Taught Me

DaddyWhen I was eight, Daddy told me that one day I’d write a book about him, and be a teacher. I didn’t really pay much attention to his words of wisdom at the time, because he had a bottle of wine in his hand; but I never forgot those words, and over the years they sustained me as I found my way through the road called life.
Today, I want to remember Daddy for being a gentle, sensitive, man who did the best that he could, and always kept his word. Thank you, Daddy, for planting a seed of the written word in me.

7 Life Lessons Daddy taught me:

1. Always be on time.

Being late was not an option at our house. Daddy used to tell us that if we couldn’t show up on time that we were being disrespectful. The last thing I wanted to do was to disrespect.

2. Make lemonade out of lemons.

I know it sounds cliche’, but there’s truth in his words. We can’t control our circumstances any more than we can control the weather; but we do have an option to sweeten the sour times in our lives with a little sugar; or to take out the umbrella in the downpour. If we don’t have an umbrella: dance in the rain, because there is always somebody else that has it worse than you do.

3. You are stronger than you think you are, and you must stand even when you feel like giving up.

Quitting is not an option. You can be a tired fighter, but never be a quitter. If you quit, you will regret your choices for the rest of your life. So, don’t quit. Regroup, and get back in the race.

4. Give more than you feel that you are able to give, of your time, talents, finances.

Little giving reaps little. If you are going to invest time and energy into doing something, do your best work. Not only will others feel that you care about their needs, but you will feel peace that you honor Christ by honoring others.

5. How to bait a fish hook.

For a long time, I felt so badly for the poor little worms who gave up their lives, unwillingly, so that I could eat fish. Sigh.I understand now that it was their purpose in life.

6. Find something to be passionate about, and pursue it.

For me, it was writing; but since writing was something I did for fun, life got in the way and kept me from it for decades. I remembered daddy had taught me #3, I kept coming back to writing; and it never left me, even when I was busy working at other careers. I always knew that what I was supposed to be doing was writing.

7. And finally, Daddy taught me to find happiness.

It didn’t matter what others might be doing or saying; if I could be honest with myself, I would live a good life, fulfilling my dreams. He used to tell me to always treat others the way I wanted to be treated. He said, “If you are honest, you won’t need to remember the truth, because it will be inside of you.”
I was blessed beyond measure to be in the family that God chose for me. This week’s Lattereign honors those men. Men of God; You Make a Difference
Thank you Daddy for the lessons that you taught me about living well.
Your Daughter,
Grace
