“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.”

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell” (Psalm 27:1-2).

“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up. Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord” (Psalm 27:10-14).

How long will you wait to be delivered from your enemies?

One of the most challenging things to do as a Christian is to wait on the promises of God to be fulfilled in our lives. Sometimes the promises we cling to the tightest are the same ones that the Lord desires for us to have in our lives; but, for a season, he requires us to relinquish our control over to his will, so that he is able to strengthen us.

When we are willing to lose our life; we will save it. It is so easy to get caught up into the pleasures of this world, and forget that we are subject to Jesus Christ. We have a modern thinking, and we know that if we truly want something, we can go buy it. If we are so easily satisfied with obtaining our own goods by our own means: do we still need to pray? Absolutely. The Bible says to “Pray without ceasing.” It is imperative that we pray because it is our prayers that fight the spiritual battles that keep ministering angels in flight to meet the needs of every person.

As a child of God, I need the daily communication and fellowship that prayer rewards to those who take the time to bask in his presence. It is more precious to me than food. It will keep me winning in the good fight of faith. I know that I can be victorious, because I know that I pray. My prayers never fail. I may fail; people may fail that surround me; but, my prayers will never fail to reach the attention of a God who loves me with an everlasting love. He is merciful to me and his promises are dependable. He knows how to give good and perfect gifts, and he knows when is the best time for me to receive them. If he supplies a need too early, I may forget to ask for his guidance the next time I have a need.

If I will learn to wait on his promises—he said that we have need of patience—there is nothing that I need that he won’t supply. Faithful. My God is faithful and he is working on my behalf, even when I can’t see it; even when the situations that I face look impossible from my perspective. He will do it; he has not abandoned us or forgotten us; he is working all things for our good so that we will be fit for the master’s use.
